The aim of this study was to develop and validate an assay based on liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry to quantitate talinolol in rat plasma. After a simple protein precipitation step, separation was performed by reversed-phase liquid chromatography using gradient elution with acetonitrile-water-formic acid. Electrospray ionization in the positive ion mode with multiple reaction monitoring was used to analyze talinolol employing propranolol as internal standard. The calibration curve for talinolol was linear over the concentration range 1-250 ng/mL with a correlation coefficient0.995. The separation of lignin from the black liquor generated during alkaline pulping is reviewed in this article with an emphasis on chemistry. Based on published accounts, the precipitation of lignin from spent pulping liquor by addition of acids can be understood based on dissociation equilibria of weak acid groups, which affects the solubility behavior of lignin-related chemical species. Solubility issues also govern lignin separation technologies based on ultrafiltration membranes; reduction in membrane permeability is often affected by conditions leading to decreased solubility of lignin decomposition products and the presence of colloidal matter. SUMMARY Loricate choanoflagellates (unicellular, eukaryotic flagellates; phylum Choanozoa) synthesize a basket-like siliceous lorica reinforced by costal strips (diameter of approximately 100 nm and length of 3 μm). In the present study, the composition of these siliceous costal strips is described, using Stephanoeca diplocostata as a model. Analyses by energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX), coupled with transmission electron microscopy (TEM), indicate that the costal strips comprise inorganic and organic components. The prospect of phosphorus (P) recovery from siliceous fly ash was investigated. The phosphorus content in the pristine fly ash was 1.21%. Obtaining pure phosphorus products from fly ash is very challenging because of high concentration of other elements, silicon (Si) at 17.3% being the major contaminant. The fly ash was fractionated with sieve size of 125 μm to concentrate the phosphorus in the small-size fraction, which also facilitated the removal of 78% of silica (Si) in the solid phase. DNA and RNA were isolated from mammalian epidermis in a relatively small scale procedure. The high purity and native state of the DNA isolated is reflected by its molar absorptivity E (P), its thermal hyperchromicity and its hyperchromicity upon DNase treatment and by its sedimentation profile as well as by its profile in a cesium chloride density gradient. The very low content of protein and RNA, as well as the data of DNA determination, indicate that this method permits the isolation of a highly purified product.
